TCM has been around for thousands of years withstanding the test of time. TCM works through an understanding of the body's life force “qi” or vital breath flowing through invisible meridians or energy pathways of the body. This energy flow is connected to circadian rhythms, seasons and planetary movements which connects with organs, tissues, veins, nerves, cells, atoms, and consciousness.

There are 12 major meridians that connect to specific organs or networks of organs communicating throughout the body. Along with complementary forces of yin (passive) and yang (active). A person is healthy when harmony exists between these two forces.

When meridians are blocked or there is a breakdown of balance, illness occurs. A TCM practitioner uses smell, hearing, voice vibration, touch, looking at the tongue and pulse diagnosis to discover the source of an unbalanced health condition knowing which organ and meridians are affected. The practitioner by observing natural law in action makes use of five phases (wuxing) mu - wood, shui - water, jin - metal, huo - fire, and tu - earth.

TCM may also examine the energy of unbalanced emotions affecting organ function.
